DESCRIPTION

With “Deactivate plugins per page” you can easily deactivate plugins on certain WordPress sites (or on all but one selected site).

This is mostly useful for speeding up your website because many front-end plugins load their JavaScript and CSS assets on every page, even if you are only using them on one page.

How does Deactivate plugins per page work?

You can add deactivation rules for active plugins. For example, for a contact form plugin that you only use on the contact page, just add a rule to disable it on all URIs except on the contact page.

Grouping plugins that work together

If you have a plugin that needs another plugin to be active in order for it to work, you need to put those plugins in a plugin group and add deactivation rules to that group. Deactivating just one of these plugins could lead to errors or the global deactivation of the other plugin.

Do not disable any plugins that your theme requires

Some themes require certain plugins to work properly. If you deactivate these plugins, problems can arise.

Deactivation hooks are not executed

If plugins are deactivated via my plugin, the actual deactivation function is not called and the deactivation checkmarks are not executed. Instead, to make it work per page, the plugins are simply dynamically removed from the list of active plugins before the page is loaded. This means that if a plugin has some actions that it will take when disabled, those actions will not be taken when disabled via my plugin.

For example, some plugins add code to your “.htaccess” file when activated, and when deactivated, remove it. In this case, if you add a deactivation rule with my plugin to stop the plugin on a certain page, the “.htaccess” code is still there and works on that page even though the plugin is not active on it.

Do not use this plugin to hide sensitive data

It is not intended to be used safely. It is primarily intended for optimizing page speed and can also be used for troubleshooting or solving plugin compatibility issues.

Disabling plugins per page isn’t a natural thing for WordPress, and plugin and theme developers don’t expect that either. In most cases it works fine, but sometimes it can cause problems disabling other plugins or changing settings. Always make an up-to-date backup of your page and, if possible, test your changes on a staging page.
